Healthcare Access & Affordability

After losing my father to cancer, my family was hit with a $1 million summary of care bill, a painful reminder that healthcare isn’t a privilege, it’s a human right. No one should face financial ruin just for getting sick.

Living with epilepsy has further shaped my work. Navigating life with an invisible disability has deepened my commitment to advocating for communities that are too often overlooked, especially those living with similar conditions.

Since taking office, I’ve turned that lived experience into action. As a co-prime sponsor, I passed the Colorado Option, the most significant healthcare bill in our state’s history, lowering insurance costs and expanding access statewide. My healthcare agenda is clear: people must come before profit. I’m not just calling for change; I’m passing laws and making it happen.

Featured Legislation:

  1. Establishment of a standardized health benefit plan in Colorado to improve affordability, reduce health care costs, and ensure greater access to insurance coverage for residents. HB21-1232

  2. Medical debt forgiveness requires health care providers and facilities in Colorado to offer discounted care, transparent billing, and financial assistance to indigent patients, ensuring equitable access to necessary medical services. HB21-1198

  3. Expanded insurance coverage for vital prenatal and preventive services and strengthened insurance protections at the state level. SB25-118, SB24-175

  4. Caps the cost of epinephrine auto-injectors, like EpiPens, to $60 in Colorado and allows pharmacists to prescribe and dispense them, enhancing emergency treatment for severe allergic reactions. HB24-1438
